Nordic Ice Skating in Sweden: Photographing Adventure with Madde Burgstrom

The frozen lakes of Sweden offer a vast, ever-changing playground for Nordic skaters, and few embrace this landscape more fully than Madde Burgstrom. A passionate outdoorswoman, Madde spends much of her time exploring the Swedish backcountry, gliding across pristine ice in search of solitude and connection with nature.

Before I flew out to photograph her, we spoke for an interview, and something she said really stayed with me. Her words perfectly captured the deep connection she has with the wild landscapes she moves through:

"Nature is my sanctuary. I can’t imagine a life not lived outdoors, in places crafted by nature rather than human hands," she said. "Whether in a kayak, hiking boots, on a bike, or in a pair of Nordic skates, this is where I feel free and truly connected to the earth.”

Through my photography, I aim to capture human-to-nature connection—how people interact with and are shaped by the landscapes they move through. If you’re looking for a photographer to bring your stories of adventure sports and the outdoors to life, I’d love to work with you.
