Craft & Nature

Often I photograph stories that lie at the intersection of craft and nature. I document the processes that we have developed to work with natural materials to create useful and beautiful objects, pulling on my working understanding of both nature and the process of craft. I look to capture people’s intimate relationships with the living world around them.

Native Hands

Wild potter, basket maker, and bush crafter Ruby Taylor facilitates immersive outdoor workshops in materials-led processes. Her mission is to reframe our culture’s approach to materialism through celebrating natural resources, their sustainable harvest and the traditional knowledge of working with them.

James Otter

Surfer and surfboard maker James Otter crafts surfboards from sustainable-sourced wood from the UK. He invites surfers to his workshop to build their own wooden boards and work with natural materials.

A Life Lived by the Sea

Fisherman, artist and craftsman Nigel Legge is one of the only people to still be making traditional withy lobster pots, crafting them with willow withies and skills passed on by his father.
