The Story

Back in 2012, Rachel Taylor and I founded Another Escape from a small flat in Brighton, UK. At the time, the financial crash left little room for stories of positivity and optimism. So we set out to document people with lives well lived and who had fostered meaningful relationships with nature. Alongside our small team and a talented network of contributors, we crafted a reading experience that inspired readers and gave them resilience and optimism to care for our planet at a time when it so desperately needs it.

My Role

Until its closure in 2022, I was the creative director of Another Escape and worked closely with the editor, design team and print technicians to devise and deliver strong storytelling and immersive reading experiences that inspire, enlighten and educate readers. Our ambition with the visual storytelling was to invite readers to experience awe and wonder for the natural world by looking at it through the lens of people who are deeply connected to it.

The Mission

We founded the publication on the belief that independent publications are needed in a landscape of corporate-controlled media. Many publications trade in fear, panic and dread. We set out to inspire, encourage and motivate. To offer hope, optimism and solutions. Storytelling is paramount in shaping how people see the world and how they move through it. And it was our mission to tell positive stories that lead to action.
