Xterra Planet - Trail Running Photography
I recently collaborated with my partner, the talented storyteller and editor Rachel Maria Taylor, on a project for Xterra Planet. The piece, Running With Eyes Wide Open, explores a mindful approach to trail running, embracing movement as a way to connect with the natural world. My role was translating Rachel’s evocative writing into imagery, creating an ethereal portrayal of what it means to experience trail running in nature instead of simply chasing stats and conquering hills.

Production and Location Scouting
Pre-production and location scouting were essential to this shoot. Tapping into my local network, I collaborated with Laura Hedley, co-founder of Ericeira Runners Club, to capture authentic moments of harmony between her and the environment.
Having personally run the trails of Sintra, I knew this iconic landscape would be the perfect setting to bring the story to life. The lush forests, rocky paths, and breathtaking vistas provide a sensory experience that complements the themes of presence and observation woven through the article.
This project challenged me to move beyond capturing the physicality of trail running. It was about illustrating the art of noticing—the quiet beauty in details often overlooked. With just half a day to navigate the trails and produce six images, I relied on intentional framing and natural light to create evocative, atmospheric shots.
I aimed to craft images that invite viewers to slow down, reconnect, and see the experience of trail running with fresh eyes.
If you’re looking for a photographer to bring your stories of people, passion, and purpose to life—I’d love to work with you.
